Settee

January 16, 2025

A settee is a built-in bench or sofa in a boat’s cabin, most commonly in the saloon. It is usually fitted along the hull or a bulkhead and may include lockers beneath the cushions or convert into a sea berth for sleeping underway.

For boaters, a well-designed settee is more than comfort: it provides secure seating, rest, and bracing points when the vessel is heeled or rolling. Its position near the Galley, against a Bulkhead, and the expected Sea State all affect crew movement and safety below decks.

Before a passage, check that cushions, lockers, and any table fittings are secured so the settee remains usable if conditions deteriorate. Reviewing PredictWind wind and wave forecasts alongside Weather Routing helps crew plan off-watch rest and prepare the cabin for expected motion.
