CCT
January 16, 2025
CCT, or correlated colour temperature, describes the apparent warmth or coolness of white light on a boat, measured in kelvin (K). In marine lighting it helps specify cabin, deck, cockpit and work lights, from warm white for comfort to cool white for task visibility.
Choosing the right CCT improves night vision, crew comfort and safe movement around the vessel. Warm white reduces glare below deck, while neutral or cool white can improve contrast in engine spaces and on deck. It is closely related to Color Temperature, Kelvin Count and LED selection.
For navigation areas, CCT should be considered alongside brightness, beam spread, waterproof rating and power draw. It does not replace the specified colour and arc requirements for Navigation Lights, but it matters for practical onboard illumination.
