AI Polar

AI Polar is an automatically generated boat performance model that learns how fast a sailing yacht actually sails at different true wind speeds and true wind angles. It converts logged boat speed, wind and GPS data into a polar table used for routing and performance analysis, replacing or refining manufacturer polars with real-world results.

Accurate AI Polars improve passage planning because route calculations use your vessel’s proven speed, not a generic estimate. This helps optimise sail choices, ETAs, fuel reserves, watch schedules and safe arrival windows. It is closely linked to Polars, True Wind Speed and Weather Routing.

In PredictWind, DataHub can collect onboard NMEA data and build AI Polars from normal sailing, then apply them in routing and departure planning. The more clean data recorded across varied conditions, the more representative the model becomes, especially after changes to sails, loading, hull condition or crew style.
