Red Dot on the Ocean - Matt Rutherford
In 2011 Matt Rutherford, once labeled an 'at risk youth,' threw caution to the wind and embarked on the most daring adventure of his life. He would eventually become the first person to navigate a passage around the Americas single handed, non-stop, in a 27ft yacht!
Matt had bought a Professional account from PredictWind to help guide him through the ever shifting storms and weather that he would encounter on route. Once hearing about his goal of raising funds for the Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating (CRAB), a nonprofit sailing program for people with disabilities, we decided to sponsor his journey.
With a PredictWind Satellite Communicator he could track his voyage, communicate offshore and download essential forecasts. The Communicator served him well and led to the name of his feature film, Red Dot On the Ocean, which refers to the red tracking dot logging his progress. You can still read his log at www.solotheamericas.org
We are honoured to have played a part in getting Matt safely back to his starting port in Annapolis. If once wasn't enough, and he decides to attempt to better his 309 day record, we'll happily help him on his way again, but maybe with a new bit of kit - the Iridium GO!
Red Dot on the Ocean will have its World Premier at the prestigious Quad Cinema in New York City on Friday, October 24, and is screening for one week. Show your support and experience the tale of his triumph over adversity. You might even meet the man himself!

Well done Matt, we're proud to support you.
All the best from the PredictWind Team!
