New features on all platforms

These new features, available in the Offshore App, are also available on the PredictWind website and the PredictWind App.

Wind Gust & CAPE Maps

The Offshore App now allows you to display GRIB files for Wind Gusts and CAPE, which helps you make decisions to avoid severe weather conditions.

Ocean and Tidal Currents

Ocean and Tidal Currents are now available to be viewed in the Offshore App, and displayed with your weather routing. Choose from 2 different providers for ocean currents: Hycom or Mercator.

Faster Download Speed

All GRIB file requests can be processed faster, resulting in faster download times, especially for high-resolution GRIB files, such as 9 km resolution ECMWF data and 1 km/4 km resolution SST (Sea Surface Temperature) data.

Iridium has just released version 1.5.2 of the Iridium GO firmware. With direct downloads from the PredictWind Offshore App and this firmware upgrade, you can expect a speed increase of up to 50% when connected to the Iridium "NEXT" satellite.

Weather Routing Animation

Boats are now represented with a boat icon (instead of a point) in routing animations. This allows for better tracking of the boat's direction. Another new option is the "automatic centering of the boat", which makes reading the animation easier. This option can be disabled by going to the "Preferences" tab.

Display Data in a pop-up window

Click on the GRIB file maps at any location to access the digital weather data at that location. Latitude and longitude are also displayed. This option is available on the latest apps: Mac, iOS, Android, and Windows 10.

Latitude/Longitude Grid

You now have the option to enable a Lat/Long grid with 5 degree spacing. The Lat/Long grid, along with the Lat/Long data popup will help orientate you on the map whilst offshore.

Animation Speed

Users can now control the speed of the animation.

Sea Surface Temperature (SST)

You can now choose between 1km or 4km resolution SST data in the Windows/Mac Offshore App. The 4 km resolution SST data is 4 times smaller (compared to 1km data), which is more suitable for satellite download. The iOS & Android version is limited to 4 km resolution SST data.
