This Sunday 25th, in the afternoon the strong Northerly winds in the Med will turn and weaken towards Barcelona. On the race course the winds will come from East/East-South-East direction. Wind strength is a bit uncertain and we should get around 6-12 knots with a possible increase by the end of the afternoon, with gusts up 18 knots. Cloudy day with temperatures few degrees colder. A little chance of rain could affect the wind.

This Thursday 29th, in early afternoon winds from the East should blow around 7-9 knots over the race course. During the afternoon the wind is expected to turn right and settle in a South-East direction with not much change in wind strength. Sea state will be relatively calm with 0.5 meter coming from the East with a 3 second period. The sky will be partly cloudy with temperatures reaching 26°C over the water and 29° over land.

This Friday 30th, similar conditions are expected than the previous day. The winds from East/South-East will be light around 5 to 10 knots with calm sea and cloudy sky.


We will see similar conditions to the previous day. During the early afternoon winds from the East will blow around 6 to 9 knots. The wind direction is expected to turn right during the afternoon and to end up with a South-East direction with similar wind speed. Sea state will remain calm. It will be partly cloudy with temperatures reaching 26°C over the water and 29° over land.

In the afternoon, winds from the East around are expected around 8 to 10 knots.


For the afternoon, winds around 7 to 10 knots from an Easterly direction should allow to get more racing in. Wind direction will start from the East and may trend to the right into a more South-East direction. Sea state will be relatively calm with waves around half a meter coming from the South-East direction 130° with a 3 to 4 second’s period. It will be partly cloudy with warm temperatures like the previous day.


Forecast is a bit uncertain at the moment with possible rain around Barcelona at some point during the day. The afternoon should see light conditions to be confirmed.


In the morning some showers around Barcelona will be gone for the racing. This unsettled weather in the morning makes the wind forecast a bit uncertain for the afternoon. In the early afternoon, the wind is expected East-North East around 6 to 10 knots. It will trend right into a more East-South-East. The sea state will be relatively calm with waves around 0.5 meter. The sky should be clearing up and sunshine will make a comeback in late afternoon.


A high level trough with cold air in altitude will bring instability with agitated weather over Barcelona for the next days. Tuesday may see a chance of showers around mid-day. The afternoon will be dry and cloudy with some uncertainty on the wind forecast. For the racing, most models forecast a weak Easterly around 4 to 7 knots, but a few high-resolution models see a bit more wind ranging 8 to 12 knots coming more from the East-North-East. Sea state will remain calm. Temperatures will be few degrees colder with a maximum of 28°C over land and 26°C over the water.


The weather will deteriorate and we expect rain with a risk of heavy rain and thunderstorm for the day. A strong Northerly wind in the Med will weaken and turn right before reaching Barcelona, bringing waves to the race course just shy of 1 meter with 4 second period. In the afternoon, the wind forecast is a bit uncertain and we expect a North-East wind 5 to 10 knots in average, but stronger under the convective cells.


The instability will be gone with a return to normal conditions. The morning will have offshore winds that will turn left around mid-day. For the afternoon, the winds will establish from the South-South-West 200° and are expected around 8 to 12 knots. A calm sea of 0.4 meter will come with a partly cloudy sky and air temperature reaching not more than 26°C over land and 24°C over the water.


The morning will see light winds. By mid-day the wind will establish slowly into a Southerly direction and we expect wind speed to increase during the afternoon up to 8-12 knots while trending right to South-South-West. There will be a residual sea state from the previous day with waves around 1 meter coming from the East-South-East 120° with a 5 second period. The waves will not be aligned with the wind during the racing. The sky will completely clear out during the day and the afternoon will be sunny with temperatures reaching up to 29°C over land and 26° over the water.


The instability will return to Barcelona on Sunday. There is a risk of thunderstorm and lightning for the day. Winds from North-East around 10 knots are expected in average, but with stronger gusts under rain cells. Sea state will remain at 1 meter.


The instability will be gone and the weather will be back to normal. The winds will be offshore in the morning from the North-West driven by a large-scale pressure gradient. Around mid-day, the wind will die out and a southerly breeze will fight to establish. Wind speeds are excepted light and shifty around 4 to 8 knots with waves of half a meter with 4 second period from the South-East. Those could make tricky conditions to stay up on foil. It will be sunny all day with temperatures up to 27°C on land and 24° on the water.


In the morning, there is a weak offshore wind from the North-West. In the afternoon, we expect a South-South-West wind from 200° to build progressively in strength. By early afternoon the wind speed around 6 knots should increase up to 12 knots by late afternoon.
Waves of 0.6 meter from the East direction at 5-second interval are linked to a strong Northly wind way offshore. Those waves will be roughly 90° to the wind direction.
It will be a perfect sunny day with air temperature up to 25°C on land and 22° on the water.


Sunday will see a repeat of the previous day. The Southerly breeze will come in the afternoon with similar strength. Sunny sky and nice temperatures should make a great racing day.


After mid-day, the South-South-West breeze from the direction 200° will come in and increase during the afternoon around 8-12 knots. Sea state will be calm with 0.5 meter wave from the East with 4-second period. Perfect sunny sky and temperatures up to 26° should make a great racing day.


In the afternoon, we expect light conditions with the Southerly breeze having a harder time to establish like the previous days. Winds of about 6 knots are forecasted at this stage. Flat sea, clear sky, and similar temperatures should be present on the race course.


In the morning, the wind will be offshore from the North-West. The afternoon breeze is expected 9 to 13 knots from a general Southerly direction. The wind will increase during the afternoon and the increase will be associated with a right direction trend to 200°. Sea state will be calm with some wind chop developing in the afternoon. It will be partly cloudy and temperatures up to 26°C.


In the early afternoon, we expect light and variable winds and a South-East flow 5 to 10 knots should establish later  later onon. Waves of 1 meter from the East with 5-second period. It will be cloudy with temperatures up to 24°C.
The weather should deteriorate at the end of the day and at night, with moderate/strong Easterly winds with risk of rain.

By mid-day the wind should turn right to the East with speeds around 6 to 10 knots for the afternoon and gusts up to 12 knots. The wind direction is expected to turn right to the South-East during the afternoon with not much change in wind speed. Waves of 1.1 meter from the East with a 6-second period could make challenging foiling conditions.
Sky will remain partly cloudy and the temperatures will go up to 22°C. The weather should remain dry with a small risk of rain. There is some instability in the atmosphere with strong rain expected further south of Barcelona during the day (100 kilometres away).

A South-West wind gradient will affect Barcelona today, linked to a deep low pressure system centred over Northern Europe (UK). In the morning light offshore winds will turn possessively to the South-West.
By mid-day (Youth AC), winds will blow 10-15 knots from the direction 220°. Sea state will be of one meter from the South-West at a 5-second interval.
In the afternoon (Louis Vuitton), winds will increase to 14 to 18 knots from the same direction (220°), with gusts up to 23 knots. Sea state will build up with the wind and we expect 1.5 meter (mean wave height). So racing conditions will be more and more challenging as the day progresses.
It will be a sunny day with temperatures on the rise up to 28°C due to warmer air coming from the south.

The wind pattern changes on Wednesday. In the morning, a weak North Easterly wind blows associated with a strong Northerly wind gradient offshore. During the day, the wind will globally turn right and increase in speed with some uncertainty in the forecast.
For the afternoon wind direction is expected around 90-120° (East/East-South-East). For wind speed, there is a big range due to uncertainty from 10 to 17 knots with potentially gusts up to 23 knots.
The sea state will build throughout the day and we expect 1.2 meter from the East with a 4-second period, making challenging foiling conditions.
The sky will cover up completely during the day, ahead of rain occurring in the evening/night.


In the morning, the offshore wind blows from the North-West around 10 knots. By mid-day the wind will struggle to change into a Southerly direction like usual and light and variable winds are expected as a result. In the afternoon, we expect winds 4 to 7 knots from the South. However some weather models see the South-Westerly finally establishing and building up, so racing conditions may happen late in the afternoon.
Sea state is expected around half a meter from the East direction at 4-second interval.
Some clouds present in the morning will be replaced by sunny conditions in the afternoon but with colder temperatures up to 22°C.


In the afternoon, winds from the South-West around 5 to 10 knots are expected. The sky will be mostly fine.

The morning will have light and variable winds, with some cloud cover. In the afternoon we will see light building Southerly, then turning South West and increasing in strength by the late afternoon to 10 knots average with potential for more in the gusts from 4pm. The wave buoy shows a 1m swell which has built overnight, however this is forecast to trend down, it may still have an effect on racing in the AC 40s.

Today sees the breeze fill in from the south around midday. Once the breeze fills in we expect to see 9-12 knots average throughout the afternoon race period. There is a strong possibility for the thermal breeze to push more mid afternoon with 17-18 knots, keeping an eye on the observations will validate this at race time. The wave buoy shows much less swell today at 0.4m.

A cloudy day in Barcelona brings very light winds throughout the morning and early afternoon. There is little agreement in the models, but we can expect to see some breeze mid afternoon likely to be at the bottom end of the range for racing around 6-9 knots for a short period with the breeze dying again in the early evening.

A stronger breeze offshore could deliver an uncomfortable wave state off axis to the local wind.

A different type of sailing day with offshore winds and a cross swell in the forecast. This could be a challenging sailing day with westerly winds coming off the city, making for shifty and gusty conditions with average wind speeds of 12 knots for the first start group building as the day progresses to an average of 16 knots. We can expect bigger gusts at the top end of the wind limit later in the day. The ECMWF wave modeling has a cross swell of 1m but this is not currently reflected in the Barcelona wave buoy observation at 0.5m, this cross swell would make it a very challenging sailing day if we get to the top end of the forecast.

The morning winds are offshore from the North-West. The wind will die out by mid-day and the breeze from the sea may struggle to establish later on. 
In the afternoon we expect light winds around 4 to 8 knots. The wind direction will not be well settled and the wind direction can have a large range from East to South, with possible big wind direction shifts.
Sea state is recorded this morning on a wave buoy close to the race course at 1.3 meter from the South at 6-second interval. The waves will not change much during the day and they will make tricky sailing conditions combined with light winds.
The sky will be mostly clear with some clouds in the afternoon, and temperatures will go up to 24°C.

The morning will see an unsettled light breeze from the NE. In the afternoon we will see the wind clock to the SE direction where we can expect 8-12 knots in the later afternoon. The sea state has eased from yesterday to 0.7m from the ESE.
